The challenging multi-sporting event, the Bintan Triathlon will once again spark up the beautiful island of Bintan, in the Riau Archipelago Province from 17th to 18th May 2014. This year, the event that combines exhilarating challenges, athleticism and camaraderie will celebrate its 10th year anniversary, so be sure to expect fireworks, fun fringe activities and definitely a big party.

Combining Swimming, running, and bicycling into one elaborate competition, the event will not only challenge participants’ skills and endurance but will also take them to some of the most fascinating parts of the island.

The race will be divided into three main categories: Olympic distance, Sprint Distance, and Kids&Youth Distance. The Olympic and Sprint distance race will be an open relay competition. The Olympic distance covers 1.5KM of Swimming, 40Km of cycling, and 10Km of Running; the Sprint distance covers 750m of Swimming, 20Km of cycling, and 5Km of Running; the Youth distance covers 300m of Swimming, 12Km of cycling, and 3 Km of Running; the Kids distance covers 150m of Swimming, 6Km of cycling, and 1.5Km of Running. There will also be a special Fun Race Duo Challenge that covers 1.5Km of Running, 150m of Swimming, and a dash to the finish line.

The swim is held in the clear blue waters of the South China Sea, off the picturesque beach of Nirwana Gardens. No or little current and swell are expected, thanks to an enclosed bay. Water conditions in May are very good with minimal swell, excellent visibility and a temperature of 29 C.

The bike course offers wide, smooth, undulating roads, taking in the lush greenery of Nirwana Gardens and Ria Bintan, the wide views of Lagoi Reservoir, the vibrant market Pasar Ole Ole and more. Drink bottles with water will be handed out at the halfway point of the Olympic Distance Triathlon.

The Run Course takes you through the lush greenery and scenic beaches of Nirwana Gardens to a palm tree studded finishing straight. The run course is undulating and generally well shaded. Drink stations (water, isotonic drink and sponges) are available at least every two kilometers.

As a tropical island only 55 minutes by ferry from Singapore, Bintan Island provides the perfect backdrop for an ultimate triathlon experience combined with a holiday. So, whether it’s to compete in the race or simply just to enjoy the exciting atmosphere, this special sporting event is surely something you don’t want to miss.
